URBAN RESIDENTIAL GARDEN

AUCHTERARDER

This project involved the creation of a formal garden to accompany a new extension. When I first saw the garden it was engulfed by overgrown shrubs, trees, and imposing hedging. Together with the landscaper, we revitalised this space by opening it up, removing numerous old trees and shrubs, and carefully replanting. This was quite a historic garden which had an elegant air to it, inspiring a design that would preserve its charm

Among the garden’s features was a wonderfully striking Acer, albeit positioned in the wrong spot. We made the decision to relocate the Acer to a more suitable place. Additionally, the overgrown hedge concealed a beautiful old stone wall, which we revealed using pleached trees while ensuring the garden’s privacy remained intact.

A central point of the garden is a Rill that guides visitors towards a seating area and a small growing space nestled at the bottom of the garden. The planting is a harmonious blend of wild planting and meadows, complemented by contemporary planting of pleased trees and lawns.
